Blog Update Reminder is a WordPress plugin that I developed. This plugin helps blog authors stay on track with making blog posts on a regular basis thanks to email reminders. The plugin is built with PHP and it communicates with WordPress’ MySQL database to retrieve user information.
This is the website I developed and maintained for Carma Systems, Inc. I built this website’s backend with Django, a Python web framework. I incorporated django-cms into the backend for the content management system, making it easy for anyone to make changes to our website without any HTML knowledge. I worked closely with the company’s graphic designer to ensure all styles were perfected and cross-browser compliant. I built all of the animations and interactive diagrams with Javascript and jQuery. My goal was to create an interactive and attractive Flash-free website, and I believe I succeeded!

I love finding new and cool Javascript animation ideas. This is a fun, little side-project I did at work, using a Javascript/jQuery plugin called Parallax. The parallax effect is like a viewfinder that changes perspective from different angles. I created four different “view” layers that interact with the mouse as you rollover the demo.

Carma’s office cat, Cotton, is always tricking us into giving her more canned food… which is the inspiration for this piece. Credit goes to Miranda Sehl for putting together the graphics.

As webmaster of Alpha Omega Epsilon, a professional sorority for engineering and science students, I assigned myself the task of renovating the sorority’s old website. Their old website was unattractive and buggy, which was not an image we wanted to portray as a professional sorority. I initiated this overwhelming task by designing the new page templates, redesigning the database structure to accommodate growth, and creating a backend administration system. I used PHP to handle the backend logic and database communication.
Anzenna is a biomedical technology start-up company that desperately needed a website to showcase the unique work they do. I worked with a group of students in my Interface Design course to make this website, and I was responsible for the majority of the programming and stylesheet implementation. We chose to use a WordPress backend, so the client could easily update the website’s content on his own. I reconstructed the default WordPress theme so it was unique to the client, based on the site’s design file supplied by my other group member. I coded the slideshow using jQuery and the images were selected to bring a pop of color to the website theme. The simplistic and straigt-forward style of the website is fitting to the company’s personality and needs.
This is the largest project I worked on while working as an intern at Cimetta Design, Inc. I created a custom backend and content management system with PHP and Smarty, and incorporated it into this already-existing website. This website is managed by the neighborhood’s residents, and previously there was no way to add news articles without editing HTML code. Now, the residents can submit news articles and upload pictures using an intuitive interface.
